IAP2 Certificate in Public Participation

The International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) is an organization dedicated to advancing the practice of public participation world wide. Designed by experts and delivered by licenced trainers, IAP2 Canada's Certificate in Public Participation (P2) will empower you with the knowledge and tools you need to excel and succeed in your P2 and engagement activities. 

Choose one of two options for a prerequisite course, followed by the two core courses to complete your certificate.

Fundamentals of P2 and Engagement

Prerequisite (Option A). Fundamentals of P2/Engagement is a prerequisite course for those who want to undertake the IAP2 Certificate in Public Participation. This training explores best practices of meaningful and effective P2/engagement and explores how to apply this knowledge to your work. 

IAP2 Way in Challenging Contexts

Prerequisite (Option B). IAP2 Way in Challenging Contexts  is a prerequisite course for those who want to undertake the IAP2 Certificate in Public Participation. This training covers the underpinning models and frameworks of P2/engagement practice as defined by the IAP2 community. Participants explore these concepts and models using case studies of contexts that are challenging and gain skills and knowledge to apply to their work.

Designing P2 and Engagement

Core Course. Designing P2/Engagement introduces practitioners to the design and plan phases of the IAP2 practice framework, providing the opportunity to develop P2/engagement plans. This includes scoping, community mapping, determining purpose and objectives and levels of influence, choosing appropriate methods, and managing resources, while considering the needs of diverse audiences.

Applying Methods

Core Course. Applying Methods is for those who are interested in exploring through doing a variety of methods used in implementing P2/ engagement and considering how to design and integrate those methods into your P2/engagement process.
